Beauty Queens/Halloween

Last night I went to the Miss Louisiana Pageant to support one of my best friends as she competed for the crown. She was awarded second runner up, which is awesome but she should have won damn it. All the while, Will dressed like this was at my house grilling with Scubba and others. So no costume or Halloween antics, but there's always next year and we'll be in New Orleans by then so we'll make it count.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

San Antonio was, what I assume uncharacteristically cold and rainy. After a 7 hour drive, we arrived with enough time to change clothes, pee, stretch and hit the Alamo & Riverwalk for some booze and food. before we walked to the venue for the first night of the festival. Turnout was low, as expected for a rainy Friday night. We stayed til the end, no bands really making an impact aside from Code 1. Comprised of members of Argy Bargy, The Warriors and various other English Oi bands, these veterans of Oi stayed true to the early 80's sound. Afterward, we ventured back to the hotel where we hunted down other bands to drink the night away with. We stumbled upon a band from Utah on the third floor. Long story short, several beers and their singer's busted nose later we were back downstairs.
The next morning we drove across town for breakfast at Lulu's Bakery and Diner, once featured on Man v Food for their famous 3 pound cinnamon roll. But cinnamon delights weren't what were after, we were seeking the "best chicken fried steak in San Antonio". Literally the size of a large dinner plate and covered in queso, the chicken fried steak lived up to its name. In fact, we were back the next morning. The rest of the day was spent wandering around looking for hoodies, sombreros and coonskin hats. We went onstage on time, fucked up a little bit due to alcohol and had a great time. Iron Cross played on the inside stage shortly after us. During their last song, Crucified, something went wrong between rival crews leading to a couple stabbings. I've said it before, I'll say it again; San Antonio is fuckin crazy.
The next night, after we returned from a cold, wet day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, we were invited to a private show from Patriot and Code 1 at a practice space outside the city. We, along with 12 others were given the rare treat of seeing these two bands perform, drama free. How lucky am I, a 21 year old skinhead girl to watch and let alone be asked to perform with these bands? Afterward we ended up at a bar and upon last call we said goodbye to our new friends from the UK. I can't wait to see them again in Philadelphia in May for East Coast Oi Fest.

glamorus company

We threw Kymm a little graduation BBQ yesterday, complete with Lisa Frank decorations, tiara, s'mores brownies and flammable tablecloth.

Will and I went out tonight to Artmosphere to see Eddie's band. In a sea of dreadlocks, earth tones and sandals of every color and creed, we were out of place. But starting trouble with the local trust fund hippies wasn't on our minds tonight. We're back on for Texas Oi & Punk Fest this upcoming weekend in San Antonio. I'm almost more excited about the Mexican food than the show we've got to play.

gotta win sometime

I sold the boat
I seriously discussed my future salon job
A producer for a movie called me
Got a new pair of boots
Found a dollar on the sidewalk

Chalk this one up as a good day.

that was a setup

This weekend I made a feather chest piece necklace for less than two dollars using craft store feathers, leather scraps from vest making and ribbon. I also ran across those elusive Patricia Field for Payless ankle boots in my size for 10 bucks. Oh, and this is my cat Cobra Commander.

everybody's gotta believe in something

We made it into New Orleans around 6:45. The doors to the Howlin Wolf opened at 7:00 and with 8 bands on the bill, we definitely had time to kill. We grabbed a free meal at the casino and were let down that it didn't remind us so much of Vegas as we had hoped. Afterward we met up with Jacob, his friend Pokey and a guy whose face seemed to invite a fight or attention from drunk girls. A few blocks and a few hot beers that had traveled from Baton Rouge later and we were in the CBD outside the venue. Since we're still in the sticky, South Louisiana summer months, the squatters hadn't migrated down from New York yet. Leaving it a nice eclectic crowd of locals. We stayed outside as long as we could drinking what beer we had brought, before we were forced inside to pay bar prices for cold brew. We managed to catch the entire Pallbearers' set before the headliners began. Veterans of the New Orleans punk scene and hard to miss with the scarred vocalist with waist length dreadlocks, larger ones sprouting smaller ones, The Pallbearers were one of the best bands of the night. Total Chaos played a set that seemed routine, not to mention all I was thinking about was how long it takes Rob Chaos to put up his perfectly spiked angry cotton ball hairdo he's been sporting for the last 500 years. Agent Orange played "Bloodstains", the rest is irrelevant noise. The reality of being in the punk rock retirement home was brought home by DI. It's a real coming to Jesus moment when you see these guys you remember from Suburbia, much older, much slower. FEAR, the highlight of my night, the purpose of even being there, the first punk band I got into. Lee Ving changed my life, saved my life and helped shape the person I am today. Pretty monumental for drunken, sexist rock n roll. Seeing them live was definitely one of those things I had to cross off my list. Lee sounded awesome and looked like my grandpa. I'm sure he only knew where he was because someone placed Mardi Gras beads around his neck, but it didn't matter. I couldn't help but have a smile on my face throughout the entire set.

Here's to the good ol days Lee.

Put a ring on it

Forgot to mention how the show on the 26th went... Fucking Awesome. Now that I'm officially in the band, I'm proud to say we'll be playing more shows, putting out a cd and sellin the hell out of all these t-shirts we had printed up. Cayla's sister was kind enough to take pictures that night and immortalize the awesomeness of the first show.

BJ got a rare photo of me at school. Looking disgruntled as ever, and blurry for some reason. This is the only one he got where I wasn't eating.

Out On The Wasteland

I've finished the Chemical Division at school as of Saturday. Tomorrow I start cutting. Maybe I should be at least halfway nervous, but I'm not. Confidence in such a technical field is rare, especially for me. We'll see how long it lasts. I spent my Sunday night at a local artsy fartsy bar playing Buzztime Trivia for free drinks, while Will wooed his Eastern European beauty and pseudo intellectuals in non-prescription black rimmed glasses banged away at bullshit manifestos on mac books. Who knew my seemingly useless knowledge could make me so many temporary friends. After purchasing a supremely badass rolling toolbox for all my styling tools, Will and I popped into the local vintage shop looking for stickers. While there he found an absolutely amazing leather hat that looked exactly like Silvester Stallone's in Rocky.

Sadly he couldn't justify 35 bucks for a hat. He's stronger than me. I picked up a vintage cream colored, faux fur coat for 10 dollars. It should up break up the monotony of my usual all black ensemble. And I passed up a pair of teal cowboy boots, not for $70 when I probably wouldn't wear them often. I'm getting a tad better with the self control thing. However I still dream of YSL Tribute pumps, but I'll settle for some badass motorcycle boots. Hint hint dear sweet husband.

Oh yeah and I mowed the yard today and cussed like a sailor the whole fucking time. I cut hair, not grass damn it.

VroomVroom

I dreamed of muscle cars and motorcycles all day today. While rolling a perm, while sweeping the bathroom, while salting my okra pickle. Black jeans, leather and hot engines raced through my mind. 1% patches and a Hayne's Manual. Finish School, Pay off Debt, Fulfill horsepowered fantasies.

Decision Time

Ah fuck

I was sent home from school before even clocking in this morning. Apparently my pants were inappropriate. That, in conjunction with me missing school for court at the beginning of the month puts me on attendance probation for next month. Awesome. I did managed to take advantage of the day off to laze about, enjoy a Steven Segal movie and develop a delicious honey mustard glaze.

I watched a bit of Rock of Love Bus last night. I think tv's gotten to the point of no return.

What we do is secret...

2009 has been on the verge of uneventful. I'm less than two weeks away from the end of the Chemical Division and the start of Hair Cutting. From there its two more months til I'm on the floor working on real people. Slightly scary but a comforting departure from the manikin head.

New Year's Resolutions
Stop being an antisocial asshole and make some new friends.
Take more pictures with my new badass camera.
Bring back those abs of steel.

There's bound to be more...
